When will idiots like Henry Gates learn to cooperate with the Police, and when will Obama learn to stop acting stupidly, or stupid? The answer to both of these questions is never. As for the Professor, or anyone else for that matter, you need to do as the Police say whether you think they are right or wrong. Of course if they tell you to jump off a cliff, then no, you should not do what they say, but in the normal course of them investigating something, just do as they say. I am 99% sure …

Good comment mate!
I’m white & like people for who they are, not what they are!
There are plenty like me too!
Greed & pride are the worst things in the world.
We ALL belong to the Earth!
Don’t forget, white people don’t like all white people either!

hey don’t get me twisted. read the whole script before you throw around words like attack and racist. i’m merely defending my point. i NEVER called anyone here a racist. i am not one. i’m merely pointing a realistic fact. and yes, not everyone is a conscious racist, but there is a significant number of individuals, many of influence, who are.
on a personal note, i was born and raised in New Orleans and I live in race-divided Chicago, so i know for a fact racism is still out there.

Actually…. I’ve been there and although there are unfortunately some people who are still out there the reality is we’re living in a new era and most people are not racist. we (people of color) can’t go around thinking everyone hates us because of the color of our skin. Whats even more important is we don’t become racist ourselves. attacking Caucasians by calling them racist is racist in itself. Think about it.

Excuse yourself. The cop never lost his cool that was apparent from the start to the finish, the harvard prof can’t say that. The issue is Obama profiled this officer to make a racial iincident for his motives it was a planned question and statement, nothing to do with subject matter but one he hoped would build sympathy and a following for his programs, it backfired. Some constitutional lawyer obama is his only concern was his buddy not the truth. Now if that doesn’t shut u up noting will

… have you guys ever considered that there is such thing as reverse racism. if gates was white and the cop was black this wouldn’t even be an issue. I’m a woman of color and I’m very disappointed in the turn our nation is taking.

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It has to do with allowing the police to do the job that we hired them to do. Just because the charges are thrown out or dropped, does not mean that they serve no purpose. The purpose is to give the police an ability to control the situation so that they can do their job properly, and not stupidly. What harm comes from cooperating with the police?
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
You right wing shit throwers are a hoot.
For you further education which is obviously lacking, nearly all “disorderly” cases are THOW OUT if they even get to court. It is the standard fall back bullshit of cops everywhere. I suggest you read the Constitution and pay particular attention to the 1st admendment.

blackaristo > “Judge Napolitano’s Verdict:..”
LOL. Judge Andrew Napolitano is a analyst for the FOX News Channel, not a sitting judge able to make such a verdict. Further, charges against Gates were dropped (a mistake in my opinion), so there was obviously no verdict in a nonexistant trial.

should we be more comfortable with a president who is naive about the reality of the race problem we have in this country?
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
no. Obama gave his take, based on his profession and expertise and experience, about what had happened. sadly, whether one feels comfortable with Obama’s comments is irrelevant because the truth is ugly and hurts. explain to me that what he said was false and i’ll be silent.

7/31/09 Judge Napolitano’s Verdict: Arrest of Professor Gates was Unconstitutional.
Check out the video.

Cont.
Further the court ruled that talking discourteously to a police officer while not the thing to do is not conduct, because there is no action in talking, only words and a GURANTEED RIGHT therefore almost all such charges are fluff and abused by cops forcing the citizen to be arrested, handcufted, dragged to the police station, mug shots and fingerprinter taken, the whole nine yards. THIS is what Obama, someone that should know, him being a law professor himself, was sayng was “stupid”.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
Further if you base your understand of the law on what cops are permited LEGALLY to do by watching some red neck third rate TV show like COPS, you’re sadly misinformed. Crimes and their punishment are defined in a state’s penal code. Very specific. Cops KNOW or should know that charging someone with disorderly rarely if ever makes it to court. So the abuser in this case is the cop for trampling on a citizen’s 1st admendment rights. Yes, this topic has been ruled on by the Supreme Court.

Getting arrested and being found GUILTY of any crime are two totally different things. Cops abuse their power. Doesn’t matter if you’re white, black or purple. It has always been a us verse them mentally. This is what’s stupid. The cops aren’t above the law and most have a poor understanding of what the law is in various situations. There is way too much bullying by polices of ALL citizens. Blacks tend to get the most bullying because cops assume most blacks are poor and ignorant of the law.

neobrown is notsmart at all.The Sgt gave id 2 times to Gates, 3rd time said sir Ive done this twice. and bluemountain, No its very easy to defend. The police tried to leave when they decided it was done. Told Gates we are leaving any more we will discuss outside. Gates goes outside still acting a fool and gets arrested for disorderly conduct. Whites get arrested for the same thing too, watch COPS. 2nd Gates did not go to Prison but a local jail. BIG differnce.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
The reality is the legal system isn’t blind like it is suppose to be. If you have money, fame, someone on TV or radio, part of the Hollywood crowd, play professional sports, a community leader, etc.. you are more often than not cut some slack. Sometimes LOTS of slack like old OJ was. Every day people caught doing “crime” in the inner city tend to be treated more harshly then those doing similar crimes in the burbs or rural areas. Blacks are unfairly stereotyped as lazy, dumb & prone to do crime.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
wonda no legal expert to be found in your house. It is not the words used but the fact that you were warned repeatedly of disorderly conduct that results in arrest. You could rant on at a cop the he is a wonderful person and still be arrested. They have radio traffic and witnesses to deal with and a changing situation. Your free speach argument doesn’t apply in this case.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
Thanks for admitting you’re a BIGOT.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
That’s not the issue, obama is the issue he tried race-baiting and it failed. That is the teachable moment.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
yeah, ‘none of us where there’ but it seems the cop got pissed and needed to prove that he had authority because obviously Gates was NOT breaking and entering or robbing himself. shit like this happens in Chicago and New Orleans all time and I see it everyday and have experienced it too.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
it’s not an issue of whether Obama was right or wrong in his comment. don’t let that distract you from the larger truth, that race relations in this country still has a farther way to go, and blacks and latinos are overexposed to the criminal process, far more than their white counterparts, based on racial profiling. it doesn’t mean blacks and latinos aren’t committing crimes, but that whites are committing the same crimes but just are not exposed by the same proportions as people of color.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
yeah, bluecat1122, like in hurricane katrina when black people were looting and the white people doing the same thing were were ‘finding things they need to survive’. the point is not about black people making excuses for the crimes they commit, but addresses the taboo subject that racism and racial profiling are still existant. until you’ve been in a situation where you are prejudged because of your race, you probably wouldn’t understand.
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
I have the answer! If you ever see a black man appearing to be stealing something, or breaking into something, or beating someone’s ass, just ignore it, or YOU’RE A RACISTS!
August 2nd, 2009 @5:41 am
In your own Little Fantasy World were ‘they’ know you well.
Just go in the closet and don you Dunce Cap, you know the one with the flap that covers your face and has two holes for your eyes.
Geez!

Obama was supposed to transcend race and in reality he is all about race.Revealing his racial bias, a teachable moment alright, we learned obama hasn’t changed.
