Also, the argument of why there is evil still stands. Plantinga’s ‘Free will defense’ does not stand for the Christian God. All you can do is try to say your God is morally justified in his atrocities, which makes all of you look sick. It’s hilarious to see the apologists you just name say God had morally just reasons to command genocide and rape in his name.

Meant to say their arguments are 2000 years old. Mose were refuted by Kant and Hume. None of their arguments validate anything anywhere close to proof whatsoever. At this point they are just lucky it hasn’t been completely dismissed.

“Plantinga, Wright, Craig, and Moreland are charlatans whose arguments were refuted 2000 years ago”?

Whatever helps you sleep at night, adrena.

Merry Christmas.

Read them all. Bunch of charlatans who have proven nothing. All of their arguments were refuted about 2000 years ago.

(cont’d) Wouldn’t rationality demand a thorough investigation of the evidence before such flippant dismissals?

Well Adrena,

I strongly encourage you to examine the evidence for theism and for Christianity in particular. Your caricature makes clear you’ve not done so.

Some recommendations:
1. Warranted Christian Belief – Alvin Plantinga
2. Reasonable Faith – William L Craig
3. Scaling the Secular City – J.P. Moreland
4. The Resurrection of the Son of God – N.T. Wright

Also, much of Dr. Craig’s work is available here in youtube via debates with atheism’s biggest names…(cont’d)

Your ‘reasons’ for believing a man rose from the dead and walked on water are the scribblings of 4 anonymous authors and a man who wasn’t aware Jesus was someone on planet earth. Not only that, they were all looking at each others gospels while they wrote their own.

No, atheism is dismissing your assertions. Anything asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof. You have no proof.

Adrena,

If you follow my conversation with Hidden, you’ll realize my main point was simply this: atheism is NOT defended primarily through REASON. It is defended primarily through ASSERTIONS.

Your diatribe does nothing but affirm my point.

Reason is the atheist buzzword, but you seem to define it primarily as “agreeing with me.” I, on the other hand, think reason has to do with evidence and logic…good epistemology being nothing less than essential.

Christianity has no relevance outside of Jewish culture. It is called symbolism. Jesus represents what gave Jewish people hope during their persecution and his suffering merely reflects their own. If you had a shred of decency you wouldn’t be telling kids to waste time in college studying epistemology, all it takes is a little bit of research and using your brain for a few seconds to realize the story is myth.

Lastly your brilliant God thought ‘How can I save these creatures from the sin I presented them with? I know, I’ll go down there and have myself killed!”
Just brilliant.

You can’t prove to me leprechauns don’t exist but I bet you aren’t looking for any pots of gold.
Your religion is based on myths from barbaric Bronze Age desert dwellers who stole most of their ideas blatantly from other cultures and who think blood is actually a sacrifice an omnibenevolent creator would want. Your God says I love you all but only if you kill things for me. Get over it, it’s just a myth.

MissingChurchill you need to just go ahead and admit that when it comes to brass tax your belief in God is only a matter of faith. All the sophistry in the world isn’t going to change that fact. You have fully dedicated your life to something you don’t even know actually exists and probably expect others to do so as well.. Please stop telling other people bullcrap.

The Christian corpse-god promises his followers forgiveness for all of their wrongdoing. If I believed in that death-cult I’d have a ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ card so that I’d never have to take responsibility for any of my actions too. I might murder, steal, rape & maim, safe in the knowledge that whatever horrendous actions I performed I’d never be held accountable.
A despicable excuse: ‘I did truly terrible things, but my invisible zombie friend has excused me of accountability for them.’

Another thing I would like to add is I put my age on my profile for all to see so that people who judge me based on it make themselves apparent. People who go searching for ways to discredit someone other than addressing their argument generally aren’t worth the time responding to them.

You are different, I’ll grant you that – most people just flood their comment box with insults. You on the other hand, try to subtly throw my education level into doubt, and then sidestep the question. Twice.

Hiddeknight0
December 26th, 2009 @2:49 am

And yet, as another person has pointed out, you cannot ask for us to prove a negative. The default standpoint is one of disbelief: you don’t believe something before you’ve heard of it, nor should you believe it before evidence is presented.

So you asking for us to disprove your God is incorrect, it’s up to you to show evidence.

And again, I assert there is no God in the same way I assert there are no unicorns: I’ve seen no evidence for their existence.

MissingChurchill

Hidden,
I don’t take you for a fool. I take you for a 17-yr-old who has yet to receive any higher education and thus has yet to be even exposed to introductory level philosophy and logic.

If anything is foolish about you, it is that you don’t know what you don’t know and are supremely overconfident in what you think you understand.

When you make POSITIVE assertions (which your previous posts are filled with), those POSITIVE assertions must stand up to your own epistemological standard.

The so called evidence relies on explaining the unknown, without evidence but merely scripture and supposition. The reason you are reluctant to present it is because you know I will dismiss it, as it relies purely on the supernatural, and you know that you can’t prove that or else it wouldn’t be supernatural.

Don’t take me for a fool, I understand completely what you mean – I simply disagree.
Do you need prove unicorns don’t exist before you say “unicorns are fairy tales”?

MissingChurchill
December 26th, 2009 @2:49 am

Hidden,

When you get to college, the first thing you should do is enroll yourself in a course in epistemology and logic. If you do not see why you refute yourself, then it is way beyond merit for me to explain. And yes, there is lots of good evidence for God’s existence.

If you’d like some book recommendations, I’m happy to offer. But pursuing further conversation with you is clearly a waste of time.
