Funny commercials from the Netherlands, translated and subtitled by myself. The commercials are from a series called “de Maatschappij: dat ben jij” or “Society: that is you.” I have tranlated this as “Society is you and me” to maintain the rhyme scheme. Ahaha, I can never tell if a fight’s breaking out or people are just being typically dutch. Well, I think we can all agree that I’m not an expert translator, nor am I 100% fluent in De Taal, I am only self-taught. My hope was to convey some of the humor of these commercials to non-dutch speakers, I apologize if there’s any places where my translation leaves the real dutch speakers cold! Het is zo. Je verhaspelt de werkwoordvervoeging. Het voltooid deelwoord van ‘bedoelen’ eindigt niet op een -t. ‘Af te kraken’ hoort los geschreven te worden.
Echte grammaticafouten zoals die vallen me in het filmpje tot nu toe niet op. De formulering is alleen aangepast, maar daar ontkom je niet aan bij ondertitelen.

Nee, zo moest het niet. ‘At’ was goed, de komma stond goed. Een zin met ‘and’ beginnen is stylistisch gezien lelijk. Die tweede ‘it’ in de tweede regel hoort daar niet, dus ook fout, en ‘i’l’ moet met hoofdletter I en 2 l’s.
Betweterig zijn is awesome, maar dan moet je wel weten waar je het over hebt.
