the second time the liquid came in contact w/ the solid crystals. once, that happens, or once you touch the liquid the chain reaction starts. that’s why it says to make sure that there are no crystals left over when you refrigerate it, or it would freeze over in the refrigerator.

I have a heating pad that has this stuff in it. I was wondering what was in it, but in mine, because is is incased in plastic, there is a little metal disk that I have to bend to get that reaction. Then to get it back to the liquid form, I boil the whole thing. Do you have any idea what the little metal disk in the heating pad might be?

fools… You can VERY EASILY make sodium acetate by neutralizing vinegar with baking soda. Then you just have to concentrate the solution by boiling.
